Rhode Island Sets Out to Reinvent Medicaid
Have you heard? Rhode Island is reinventing Medicaid.
Last month, Governor Gina Raimondo authorized the creation of a working group made up of healthcare leaders. They have been tasked with developing “a plan to improve the quality of care Rhode Islanders receive and reduce the costs for Rhode Island taxpayers.”
In light of the fact that RI has the second highest Medicaid costs per enrollee in the country, and that Medicaid costs account for about a third of the state’s budget, the working group’s three main goals are to:
- “Improve quality, affordability, and efficiency
- Eliminate waste, fraud and abuse
- Make Rhode Island a leader in innovation”
Over the past month, the initiative has held several townhall meetings, with the last set to be held on Wednesday, April 1st at the Portsmouth Free Public Library, from 6-7:30pm. All are welcome to attend, learn, and share ideas. You may also share ideas and feedback with the working group through this online form.
See the presentations and Q&A from earlier townhall meetings on the Reinventing Medicaid website’s news section.
